Amazon FBA Fees in Australia: Referral, Fulfilment, Storage and GST (2026)

Most guides to Amazon fees are written for the US marketplace, in US dollars, with US rates — and none of them mention GST. Amazon.com.au runs its own fee schedule: a different referral table, its own size tiers and weight bands, storage charged per cubic metre, and every fee published excluding GST.

This guide covers each of those using Amazon Australia's own pricing page, read on 16 October 2026, with the fulfilment rates Amazon made effective on 10 June 2026. All figures are in AUD. The calculator above uses the same tables, so you can run your own products through it as you read.

What Amazon Australia charges, in one list

A selling plan. Professional costs $49.95 a month if you only list on Amazon.com.au; Individual costs $0.99 per item sold. Amazon's plan comparison points sellers who want to advertise to Professional, and suggests Individual for those selling fewer than 50 items a month.

A referral fee on every sale, as a percentage of the total sales price, set by category. An FBA fulfilment fee per unit if Amazon ships for you, set by size tier and weight. Monthly storage, charged per cubic metre of space your stock takes up. And a $1.00 closing fee on every media item — books, DVDs, music, software, video, video games and consoles.

Every one of those figures is published in AUD and excludes GST. That last detail changes the maths more than any single fee, so it gets its own section below.

Referral fees: 6% to 15% for most categories, and no minimum

Amazon's Australian referral table is lower and flatter than the US one. Most categories sit between 6% and 15%: Video Game Consoles 6%, Consumer Electronics 8%, Toys & Games 12%, Home and Kitchen 13%, and Everything else 15%. The fee is charged on the total sales price — what the shopper pays, including delivery and any gift wrapping.

There is no minimum and no maximum referral fee on Amazon.com.au. That's a real difference from the US marketplace, where most categories carry a $0.30 minimum per item: in Australia a cheap item pays its percentage and nothing more.

The $20 line, and the categories that tier by portion

Six categories switch rate on the whole price at $20: Baby Products (8% at $20 or less, 11% above), Beauty, Health and Personal Care (8%, then 13%), Clothing & Accessories (10%, then 13%), Grocery and Gourmet (8%, then 10%), Pet Products (10%, then 13%) and Tools & Home Improvement (10%, then 13%).

That line is worth checking before you set a price. A $19.95 beauty product pays $1.60 in referral fee; at $21.95 it pays $2.85. For a GST-registered seller the extra $2.00 is worth $1.82 after GST, and $1.26 of it goes to the higher fee — so the price rise nets about 56 cents a unit.

Five categories work the other way, charging a lower rate on the portion above a threshold: Computers (8% up to $150, 6% above), Jewellery (15% up to $200, 5% above), Shoes, Handbags & Sunglasses (14% up to $50, 10% above), Sports and Outdoors (13% up to $200, 12% above) and Watches (12% up to $50, 8% above). An $80 pair of shoes pays 14% on the first $50 and 10% on the other $30: $10.00, or 12.5% overall.

FBA fulfilment fees: size tier, weight and the $13 line

Amazon measures your packaged unit, puts it in a size tier, and charges the rate for its weight band. The smallest tier, a small envelope up to 20 × 15 × 1 cm and 75 g, costs $4.55. Standard envelopes run $4.58 to $5.61 and large envelopes $6.78 to $8.29. Parcels — up to 45 × 34 × 20 cm and 12 kg — run from $7.34 up to 250 g to $13.93 at 11–12 kg, and the oversize tiers cost more again.

Items priced under $13 pay less. Every band in Amazon's table has a second, lower rate for products with an item price under $13 — $0.91 less per unit across envelopes, parcels and oversize. A small envelope drops to $3.64.

For parcels, the box can outweigh the product. Envelopes are charged on unit weight, but parcels and oversize items are charged on the greater of unit weight and dimensional weight: length × width × height in cm, divided by 4,000, in kg. Amazon's own example is an iron in a 32 × 17 × 14 cm box: it weighs 1,360 g but its dimensional weight is 1,904 g, so it pays the 1,501–2,000 g rate of $9.81.

Storage: per cubic metre, and dearer from October

Storage is charged monthly on the average volume your stock occupies. Standard-size inventory costs $37.00 per cubic metre a month from January to September and $51.80 from October to December; oversize is $34.20 and $48.00.

Per unit it looks small. A product in a 30 × 20 × 10 cm box takes up 0.006 cubic metres, which is about $0.22 a month in most of the year and $0.31 in the peak quarter. It adds up on slow sellers, and stock that sits too long attracts an aged-inventory surcharge on top: $155 per cubic metre at 271–300 days, rising to $370 per cubic metre (or $0.12 a unit, whichever is greater) at 366 days or more.

GST: the part US fee guides leave out

Amazon publishes its Australian fees excluding GST and adds GST where it applies. GST is 10%, and the GST inside a GST-inclusive price is the price divided by 11 — both from the ATO. The ATO requires you to register for GST once your GST turnover reaches $75,000.

If you're registered, 1/11 of every sale goes to the ATO, so a $39.95 sale is worth $36.32 to you. In return you can generally claim back the GST on Amazon's fees as a credit on your BAS (the ATO needs a tax invoice for purchases over $82.50), so the fees cost you their ex-GST amount.

If you're not registered, you keep the whole price — but you pay Amazon's fees plus GST, with nothing to claim back. The calculator above handles both: set the GST question to match you. None of this is tax advice; your accountant has the last word on your situation.

A worked example, in AUD

The calculator above starts with this one. A Home and Kitchen product listed at $39.95, in a 600 g parcel, sold by a GST-registered seller on the Professional plan.

GST to the ATO is $3.63. The referral fee at 13% is $5.19. The FBA fee for a parcel in the 501–1,000 g band is $9.22. The product costs $9.00, inbound shipping $1.50, and prep, storage and returns another $0.50. Advertising runs $4.00 a unit.

That leaves $6.90 per unit — about 19% of the ex-GST price. Profit before advertising is $10.90, about 27% of the price, so that's the break-even ACoS: spend more than that on ads for a unit and the sale costs you money. GST and Amazon's two fees take about $18 of the $39.95, around 45%, before the product itself is paid for. At 200 units a month, the product makes about $1,331 after the $49.95 plan fee.

Five ways the Australian fee maths goes wrong

Using a US calculator. The US referral table runs to 45% with a $0.30 minimum in most categories, the fulfilment tiers are different, and none of it accounts for GST.

Treating the listed price as yours. If you're registered, 1/11 of it belongs to the ATO.

Pricing just over $20 in a category that switches there. Check whether the higher rate eats the price rise.

Weighing the product, not the box. A light, bulky parcel is charged on its dimensional weight.

Planning the peak on off-peak storage rates. From October to December storage costs 40% more per cubic metre.

Frequently asked questions

What are Amazon's seller fees in Australia?

A selling plan ($49.95 a month on Professional, or $0.99 per item sold on Individual), a referral fee on every sale set by category, and — if you use FBA — a fulfilment fee per unit and monthly storage per cubic metre. Media items also pay a $1.00 closing fee. All are published in AUD excluding GST, on Amazon's pricing page, read 16 October 2026.

Does Amazon Australia have a minimum referral fee?

No. Amazon's Australian pricing page states there is no minimum or maximum referral fee. The US marketplace, by contrast, charges a $0.30 minimum per item in most categories.

Do Amazon's fees in Australia include GST?

No. They're published excluding GST, and GST is added where it applies. A GST-registered seller can generally claim it back as a credit; a seller who isn't registered carries it as a cost.

What's the cheapest FBA fee in Australia?

$4.55 for a small envelope — up to 20 × 15 × 1 cm and 75 g — or $3.64 if the item is priced under $13. Both ex GST, from the schedule effective 10 June 2026.

How are Amazon Australia storage fees charged?

Monthly, per cubic metre of average volume: $37.00 for standard-size stock from January to September and $51.80 from October to December ($34.20 and $48.00 for oversize). Inventory stored 271 days or more also attracts an aged-inventory surcharge.

How do I work out my profit per unit on Amazon Australia?

Take the sale price, subtract the GST you owe if you're registered (1/11 of the price), then subtract the referral fee, the FBA fee, any closing fee, your product cost, inbound shipping, other costs and your ad spend per unit. The calculator on this page does it with Amazon Australia's own fee tables.
